LAZY WORKERS? LET’S FLIP THAT

One school of thought in Government is that workers are lazy and feckless and that is why we have a productivity problem.

I believe they are profoundly wrong.

What we have is a leadership problem.

For too long we have believed leaders are those who attend the right schools and universities. Some are.

But the best I have known, came from the cold, grey landscape of hardship.

They learn selflessness as a progressive quality, and they work hard to lift those around them.

They see the youngest in their midst as jewels to be shone and polished not consigned to a life judged by postcode.

They represent all their people, not just those who fuel their ego, and judge their success and failure, by your success and failure.

They delight in sharing a big picture. They give you hope not with false promise, but by showing that you have the wherewithal to fulfil your dreams and giving you the means and confidence to do so.

They look up at you, not down on you.

That ability comes not from schooling but from experience.
