This is a building, once down at heel, now occupied by students.
It is one of five themed blocks in the neighbourhood.
The area once brought misery.
It now brings joy.
Oh, and it attracts visitors from around the world.
Visitors want coffee, food and souvenirs.
It is not a World Heritage site nor one of the Seven Wonders.
It started with a simple question.
How can we create something remarkable. Something different
Something that will attract people to live here and boost the local economy.
Set free some creative minds.
Here we have it. The singing pipes of Dresden. When it rains it plays.
How do we restore joy and pride in our communities?
Local colleges, universities and schools are a great resource.
Do we involve them in such challenges?
Are we more wedded to policies than magic?
Now it’s 2023. Audacity reigns.
Listen to what our senses tell us.
Don’t start with a problem.
Ask instead.
How can we bring joy, colour, pride, jobs and attract paying visitors?
It’s been done. I have seen and touched it.
So there.
Let the pipes sing out
